Foundations

The Foundations are the rules every page follows before it shows any particular data. They set how a page is read, how it is coloured and lit, where things may sit and how it answers a touch.

PageCovers
LegibilityReading distance and conditions, the brightest element on a page, and why legibility wins over effects
ColourColour roles, the day and night palettes, and the colours reserved for one meaning
TypographyThe two typefaces, the type roles and their sizes, and digits that hold still
LayoutThe 720 × 720 canvas, the whole-pixel grid, the corner safe area and the standard data-page layouts
Materials and depthFlat surfaces, the one recess treatment, shadows by day and glows at night, and needles behind readouts
MotionChanging digits, the alert throb, needle smoothing and the timing of feedback
NightDark adaptation, the amber night palette and the backlight as the night dimmer
Touch accessibilityOne finger, action on release, target sizes for gloved hands, and water on the glass

Display-neutral by default

The Foundations describe the design rather than one panel. A rule holds for every SCADYS display and for the planned mobile app unless it names a product. Pixel values are on the 720 × 720 design canvas described under Layout.
